President Joe Biden cut off questions at a White House news conference on Tuesday, saying he was “gonna be in trouble” if he continued the back-and-forth with the press.
The moment: “I’m sorry. This is the last question I’ll take,” he said. “I’m really gonna be in trouble.”
Biden then returned to the lectern, where had just announced updated federal health guidelines for masking outdoors, and promised to help India and other countries with COVID-19 treatments and vaccines.
- He had briefly answered two previous queries from reporters.
The question: Critics have long doubted whether the president, at age 78, is calling the shots in his own administration.
