A photo of President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden appearing to dwarf former first couple Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter has raised questions online.
The facts: The Carter Center released the image on Monday, four days after the Bidens visited the Carters at their house in Plains, Georgia.
- Joe Biden, 78, and Jimmy Carter, 96, longtime Democratic allies and friends, spent less than an hour together in their fist meet-up since the COVID-19 outbreak.
The questions: Many conservative Twitter commentators were confused as to why the Bidens looked gigantic relative to the Carters.
Others expressed disbelief that the photo could be real.
Yet others wondered about the science behind the Bidens’ decision to go maskless inside the home of the Carters, who are both nonagenarian cancer survivors — and then to reapply their face coverings on the way out the door.
According to The Guardian, “the Bidens are not, in reality, about three times bigger than the Carters,” but rather, “The image is possibly distorted by using a wide-angle lens.”
Wait. This photo is real? I saw it circulating on this site and just assumed it was a jokey photoshop job to make the Bidens look like giants. https://t.co/DlG0GfsLxQ— Sohrab Ahmari (@SohrabAhmari) May 4, 2021
More: Later on Thursday, the Bidens held a drive-in rally in Duluth, Georgia, to promote the president’s $4 trillion economic plan.
- The event ended with Biden spending more than 30 seconds looking for his mask, which turned out to have been in his pocket the whole time.
